Painted Pet Portrait of Scottish Terrier; Mixed media; graphite, acrylic and oil paint

My pet portraits start with a photo session or a highly detailed photo in the clients collection.  This photo shows the 1st step of the rendering process, which includes a highly detailed graphite drawing.  After this step I layer acrylic and then oil paint to achieve an absolutely stunning and lifelike look.

I think he likes it!  Haha

And here is the finished product!  An amazingly lifelike and super chic painting of your pet.

  1. Lovely, lovely portrait! Your technique sounds very interesting. After a perfect graphite drawing, does the acrylic wash not remove the graphite? Just curious to know. This is one of the best Scotty portraits I've seen yet.

  2. Lovely pet portraits! Adoring the technique, and the fact that you're from New Orleans! :)
